A huge bomb is about to be dropped on solar users. 😱 Taxes on solar panels.
Central Power Purchasing Agency has submitted a summary to the Ministry of Energy.
How much taxes on solar panels is the government imposing?
The summary suggests imposing a 2000 pkr tax per kilowatt on residential and commercial solar panel users. After the approval, the 12 KW solar system will cost 24,000 pkr in taxes only.
This taxation will cause a hike in the prices of solar systems.
CPPA’s proposal sent to the Ministry of Energy for approval has now been forwarded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final authorization, according to ARY News.
Following the prime minister’s endorsement, consumers choosing 12-kilowatt solar panels will face a PKR 24,000 tax. The government is also reviewing solar panel pricing and considering ways to reduce costs. Earlier, Sindh’s Jails Minister announced plans to transition prisons across the province to solar power. This includes installing 200 to 600KV solar kits in prisoner barracks to power fans. The work has already begun in Karachi’s Central Jail, Women’s Jail, and Landhi Jail, and will expand to other provincial jails in the next phase.
